Part of the Desert Defenders initiative, join Friends of the Tonto as they work with Tonto National Forest and neighboring communities to identify, map and remove non-native plants.
In this training session you’ll learn how to use the free Esri Field Maps application to collect data on non-native plants. After a short orientation and safety review, you will hike into a major wash where you will observe and map fountain grass and buffelgrass. Help us protect our natural areas from this wildfire risk! Contact Don at Friends of the Tonto for more information.

Event Description
Bring the family for a wild night at Estrella Mountain Regional Park! On this 1-2 mile guided hike we may find blooming saguaros, hear owls and coyotes, or spot a scorpion under a blacklight. These family centered night hikes will be an adventure for all ages.
Trail will be determined the week of the hike and is based on trail conditions. Meet at the Nature Center for directions.

Event Description
Join the Desert Defenders partner, Friends of the Tonto and volunteers to remove fountain grass at Lost Dutchman State Park. They will be meeting at 7:00 a.m. at the entrance to Lost Dutchman State Park for free entrance passes. Come prepared with gloves, hat, a backpack and plenty of water!
They will park at the Siphon Draw Trail Head and hike approx. 1.5 miles to an area of fountain grass to conduct the removals.
