The Central Arizona Conservation Alliance (CAZCA) has updated its strategic plan to meet the increasing conservation challenges the Sonoran Desert faces. Increasing heat, more severe wildfire cycles, loss of biodiversity, and many other challenges are compounding across the Central Arizona region. The CAZCA partners are working to meet these challenges and working together to conserve our open spaces and natural areas for the economic, mental, and physical health of the people who live and visit these places.
The Regional Open Space Strategy (ROSS) was first published in 2017 to guide the work of CAZCA and the collaborating organizations. It outlines four primary goals: Protect & Connect, Sustain & Restore, Love & Support, and Coordinate & Elevate. Together, these goals help us create a long-lasting future for Central Arizona’s natural areas, which will serve families of today and tomorrow.
The update of the ROSS, released in spring 2025, still holds to those four guiding goals, but the CAZCA Staff, Steering Committee, and partner organizations have worked together to update the front matter and Objectives and Action Items under each goal.
The ROSS can be found on the CAZCA website (cazca.org) or at this direct link (bit.ly/2025ROSS). For questions or more information please contact Challie Facemire at 480 481 8167 or cfacemire at dbg.org.
