Continuing Education Course
CALLING ALL SCIENCE EDUCATORS FOR GRADES 3-8!
We want to equip you with new effective tools and resources to educate your students in the sciences utilizing storytelling and improving literacy.
Project Purpose
Environmental education presents a vast range of opportunities for teaching about the natural world. However, there is a lack of specific information about environmental education, particularly when it comes to storytelling.
To address this, we’re developing a continuing education course for 3rd-8th grade teachers that demonstrates how to incorporate a humanities perspective when teaching about the Sonoran Desert and science in general. The curriculum will feature information, resources, and videos from science and storytelling professionals, equipping educators with the necessary tools to integrate storytelling, cultural exploration, and interdisciplinary collaboration within their classrooms. We will host two free in-person educator training events in 2024 to provide hands-on learning opportunities, and then the course will be available online.
The two in-person courses will take place at the Desert Botanical Garden on August 10th and September 21st, both from 9am-12pm. This course will be worth three continuing education credits.
