SUMMARY:CAZCA Speaker Series: Using Motivational Psychology to Engage Landowners in Conservation
DESCRIPTION:Desert Defenders: Invasive Species Program\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n				 Event Description\nJoin us for an insightful discussion with Biophilia Foundation CEO\, Jennifer Gooden\, on the psychology behind engaging with private landowners! \nSuccessful landscape conservation necessitates that we work proactively with private landowners. Yet how\, exactly\, to engage is less clear. This session will highlight principles drawn from the psychology of human motivation that can help us engage with others more effectively. We’ll discuss intrinsic and extrinsic motivation\, factors that facilitate or thwart intrinsic motivation\, and how to put it into practice. \nThese principles apply to a broad range of relationships\, so people are welcome to join even if they don’t work with landowners! \nPlease register below by clicking the “Register” button\, this event is free and will be offered online via Zoom. \nWe look forward to seeing you there!  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Register\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n DATE:\n\n\n\n\nMar 13\, 2025\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Time:\n\n\n\n\n9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. MST\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Location:\n\n\n\nOnline via Zoom\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Meet the Speaker\n \nJennifer Gooden\nPresident & CEO\, Biophilia Foundation\nJennifer Gooden is president and CEO of the Biophilia Foundation\, where she focuses on strategic impact of conservation and restoration initiatives\, with interests in riparian restoration\, rewilding\, and private land conservation. SUMMARY:Community Science Project - Tracking Traffic to Reduce Emissions and Congestion
DESCRIPTION:Community Science Project - Tracking Traffic for Pollution Levels\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Join us in tracking pollution levels to reduce emissions and traffic congestion by using the Hestia Traffic App to observe traffic! \nHestia is cutting-edge modeling system that offers accurate estimates of fossil fuel CO2 emissions\, air quality\, and human-generated heat\, all at high precision in space and time. Focused on individual cities\, Hestia helps us better understand and enhance our urban ecosystems. More information can be found here. \nWe’re working to improve the accuracy of on-road emission estimates in Hestia. To achieve this\, we’ve introduced a user-friendly\, community science app to gather more accurate and detailed data about traffic emissions in urban areas. Considered by many to be the father of modern conservation and wildlife ecology\, Aldo Leopold was a forester\, philosopher\, conservationist\, educator\, writer\, and outdoor enthusiast. The documentary “Green Fire” captures Leopold’s transformative journey\, tracing his evolution from his formative years working in the National Forests of Arizona to his groundbreaking later career. Through stunning cinematography and thoughtful narrative\, the film showcases how Leopold’s revolutionary ideas continue to shape modern conservation efforts from urban centers to remote wilderness areas. \nThe evening will include a conversation between Buddy Huffaker of the Aldo Leopold Foundation and DFLT President and CEO Vicki Preston.  Together\, they’ll connect Leopold’s timeless wisdom to the vital work of protecting our beloved Sonoran Desert landscape. \n  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n DATE:\n\n\n\n\nJan 30\, 2025 \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Time:\n\n\n\n\n5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Location:\n\n\n\nSanderson Lincoln Pavilion\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Do I need to Register?\nYes\, please register for the event using our partner’s registration page. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Register\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Event Partners\nCAZCA functions through extensive partnerships to stand together and further our conservation efforts.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Other Events\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Partner Event \n \n \n \n \n Earth Day Festival at Rio Salado\n \n Apr 11\, 2026 \n \n \n Celebrate Earth Day with Audubon at the Rio Salado Audubon Center for a day dedicated to nature\, sustainability\, and people working to protect our environment.\n\nEarly Bird Habitat Restoration Activity\n7:45 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.\n\nMain Festival\n10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Botanic Briefing \n \n \n \n \n Safeguarding Our Desert Icon: Inside the Saguaro Initiatives at Desert Botanical Garden\n \n Apr 15\, 2026 \n \n \n The Botanic Briefings is a seminar series covering the research or conservation efforts going on at the Desert Botanical Garden (DBG)\, or outside groups / agencies / organizations working with someone in the Research\, Conservation\, and Collections department of DBG.\n\nThis presentation will be given by Tania Hernandez from DBG. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Botanic Briefing \n \n \n \n \n Community Science Monitoring of Urban Saguaro Health: The Saguaro Monitoring Program within the Desert Botanical Garden’s Saguaro Initiatives\n \n May 5\, 2026 \n \n \n The Botanic Briefings is a seminar series covering the research or conservation efforts going on at the Desert Botanical Garden (DBG)\, or outside groups / agencies / organizations working with someone in the Research\, Conservation\, and Collections department of DBG.\n\nThis presentation will be given by Billie Fraser\, ASU Masters of Science program at the School of Life Sciences\, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
