The Saguaro Census is the first step to generate a database to monitor the saguaro population in the Valley\, learn more about their health\, and research the effects climate change might have on them. \nWe encourage you to go the extra mile and make notes about their size\, number of arms\, health and where they are located. Is it tall with three arms and looks full of water? Is it in a commercial area and looks brown? Let us know! \nSee this training video for help or use the handy Getting Started Guide. \n Interested in volunteering for a more active role in the Saguaro Census? Help us find and map as many Rosy-faced lovebirds (Agapornis roseicollis) and the plants they interact with as possible. \nRosy-faced lovebirds can be seen all over the Valley and are adored by many. Often thought of as a native bird\, these cheeky characters were actually introduced to the area. Lovebirds can often be found near water sources\, especially with palm trees or houses with roof tiles nearby. Bird feeders are also a common place to spot them. Use iNaturalist to see where they’ve been spotted in the past! How this species impacts other native wildlife hasn’t yet been scientifically studied. There could be plants we don’t know they are eating\, or they could be interacting with other birds in ways we aren’t aware of. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n DATE:\n\n\nAugust 2021\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Time:\n\n\nAll Day\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Location:\n\n\nMetro Phoenix\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n How Do I Join?\nSign up for iNaturalist and join the EcoQuest today! \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Join The EcoQuest\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Event Partners\nCAZCA functions through extensive partnerships to stand together and further our conservation efforts. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Other Events\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Partner Event \n \n \n \n \n Earth Day Festival at Rio Salado\n \n Apr 11\, 2026 \n \n \n Celebrate Earth Day with Audubon at the Rio Salado Audubon Center for a day dedicated to nature\, sustainability\, and people working to protect our environment.\n\nEarly Bird Habitat Restoration Activity\n7:45 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.\n\nMain Festival\n10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Botanic Briefing \n \n \n \n \n Safeguarding Our Desert Icon: Inside the Saguaro Initiatives at Desert Botanical Garden\n \n Apr 15\, 2026 \n \n \n The Botanic Briefings is a seminar series covering the research or conservation efforts going on at the Desert Botanical Garden (DBG)\, or outside groups / agencies / organizations working with someone in the Research\, Conservation\, and Collections department of DBG.\n\nThis presentation will be given by Tania Hernandez from DBG. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Botanic Briefing \n \n \n \n \n Community Science Monitoring of Urban Saguaro Health: The Saguaro Monitoring Program within the Desert Botanical Garden’s Saguaro Initiatives\n \n May 5\, 2026 \n \n \n The Botanic Briefings is a seminar series covering the research or conservation efforts going on at the Desert Botanical Garden (DBG)\, or outside groups / agencies / organizations working with someone in the Research\, Conservation\, and Collections department of DBG.\n\nThis presentation will be given by Billie Fraser\, ASU Masters of Science program at the School of Life Sciences\, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Help us find and map as many oleander (Nerium oleander) plants as possible. \nOleander can be seen all over the valley and is commonly found in almost every nursery and garden center. It has a reputation as an extremely hardy\, drought tolerant ornamental. You’re sure to see it featured in landscapes across almost the entirety of the country\, including many neighborhoods across Metro Phoenix. Observations from this EcoQuest can help us determine how many oleanders are growing in the area. Together\, we can learn about and find where this exotic plant may be may be taking up valuable local habitat that could otherwise benefit pollinators\, ecosystems and people. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n DATE:\n\n\nJuly 2021\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Time:\n\n\nAll Day\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Location:\n\n\nMetro Phoenix\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n How Do I Join?\nSign up for iNaturalist and join the EcoQuest today! \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Join The EcoQuest\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Event Partners\nCAZCA functions through extensive partnerships to stand together and further our conservation efforts. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Other Events\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Partner Event \n \n \n \n \n Earth Day Festival at Rio Salado\n \n Apr 11\, 2026 \n \n \n Celebrate Earth Day with Audubon at the Rio Salado Audubon Center for a day dedicated to nature\, sustainability\, and people working to protect our environment.\n\nEarly Bird Habitat Restoration Activity\n7:45 a.m.

Honey bees and birds are recognized and appreciated for pollination during the day\, but who works the night shift? \nNocturnal pollinators are understudied\, especially when compared to diurnal ones. Observations from this EcoQuest can help map these invasives and contribute to the efforts of Desert Defenders.  \nThis month’s EcoQuest is in collaboration with Desert Defenders. Desert Defenders is a citizen science program focused on finding\, mapping and removing invasive species at local parks and preserves. The plant species they focus on are known to have a moderate to severe impact on local ecosystems and communities. Find and map as many wildflowers as possible! \nWildflower season is a cherished phenomenon in the Sonoran Desert. Blanketing the desert floor with impressive shapes and colors\, these ephemeral wonders have specific requirements that allow them to flourish. Observing wildflowers can provide information on populations and how environmental conditions could be impacting them. These observations can also provide an artistic appreciation of these natural wonders. \nThis month’s EcoQuest is in collaboration with Vision Gallery and Maricopa Native Seed Library. \n \n Guide to Wildflowers of Metro Phoenix\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n DATE:\n\n\nMarch 2021\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Time:\n\n\nAll Day\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Location:\n\n\nMetro Phoenix\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n How Do I Join?\nSign up for iNaturalist and join the EcoQuest today! \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Join The EcoQuest\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Event Partners\nCAZCA functions through extensive partnerships to stand together and further our conservation efforts. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Other Events\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Partner Event \n \n \n \n \n Earth Day Festival at Rio Salado\n \n Apr 11\, 2026 \n \n \n Celebrate Earth Day with Audubon at the Rio Salado Audubon Center for a day dedicated to nature\, sustainability\, and people working to protect our environment.\n\nEarly Bird Habitat Restoration Activity\n7:45 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.\n\nMain Festival\n10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Botanic Briefing \n \n \n \n \n Safeguarding Our Desert Icon: Inside the Saguaro Initiatives at Desert Botanical Garden\n \n Apr 15\, 2026 \n \n \n The Botanic Briefings is a seminar series covering the research or conservation efforts going on at the Desert Botanical Garden (DBG)\, or outside groups / agencies / organizations working with someone in the Research\, Conservation\, and Collections department of DBG.\n\nThis presentation will be given by Tania Hernandez from DBG. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Botanic Briefing \n \n \n \n \n Community Science Monitoring of Urban Saguaro Health: The Saguaro Monitoring Program within the Desert Botanical Garden’s Saguaro Initiatives\n \n May 5\, 2026 \n \n \n The Botanic Briefings is a seminar series covering the research or conservation efforts going on at the Desert Botanical Garden (DBG)\, or outside groups / agencies / organizations working with someone in the Research\, Conservation\, and Collections department of DBG.\n\nThis presentation will be given by Billie Fraser\, ASU Masters of Science program at the School of Life Sciences\, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Much of this decline can be tied to loss of milkweeds\, the plant genus that monarchs depend on for reproduction. Other factors likely include loss of nectar plants\, destruction of overwintering habitat and climate change. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About Monarchs\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Milkweeds on SEINet\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n DATE:\n\n\nFeb 2021\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Time:\n\n\nAll Day\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Location:\n\n\nMetro Phoenix\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n How Do I Join?\nSign up for iNaturalist and join the EcoQuest today! \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Join The EcoQuest\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Event Partners\nCAZCA functions through extensive partnerships to stand together and further our conservation efforts. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Other Events\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Partner Event \n \n \n \n \n Earth Day Festival at Rio Salado\n \n Apr 11\, 2026 \n \n \n Celebrate Earth Day with Audubon at the Rio Salado Audubon Center for a day dedicated to nature\, sustainability\, and people working to protect our environment.\n\nEarly Bird Habitat Restoration Activity\n7:45 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.\n\nMain Festival\n10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Botanic Briefing \n \n \n \n \n Safeguarding Our Desert Icon: Inside the Saguaro Initiatives at Desert Botanical Garden\n \n Apr 15\, 2026 \n \n \n The Botanic Briefings is a seminar series covering the research or conservation efforts going on at the Desert Botanical Garden (DBG)\, or outside groups / agencies / organizations working with someone in the Research\, Conservation\, and Collections department of DBG.\n\nThis presentation will be given by Tania Hernandez from DBG. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Botanic Briefing \n \n \n \n \n Community Science Monitoring of Urban Saguaro Health: The Saguaro Monitoring Program within the Desert Botanical Garden’s Saguaro Initiatives\n \n May 5\, 2026 \n \n \n The Botanic Briefings is a seminar series covering the research or conservation efforts going on at the Desert Botanical Garden (DBG)\, or outside groups / agencies / organizations working with someone in the Research\, Conservation\, and Collections department of DBG.\n\nThis presentation will be given by Billie Fraser\, ASU Masters of Science program at the School of Life Sciences\, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
